In July 2003 I began to use some of my photographs to accompany the entries in a static weblog. A little later I set up a separate photoblog using MT, which then became chromasia. Initial inspiration for this version came from two sources: pixpopuli.com and a previous incarnation of chromogenic.net.

After studying law in London, Roger Fenton trained as a painter in London and Paris. He exhibited his paintings and helped found a drawing school that gave evening instruction to working men in London. Active in the arts, Fenton corresponded with French photographers Gustave Le Gray and Henri Le Secq, which may have led him to pursue photography.

Philip Greenspun, a well known writer and MIT instructor on the development of community web sites, founded photo.net in the early 90's as a showcase for his own travel writing and photography. It has since developed into the largest general photography community on the web. According to Alexa, it is the second largest photography site (after dpreview) with over 2.7 million unique visitors per month, and more than 40 million page impressions per month. Philip still helps guide the site as a member of its Board of Directors, although he is no longer involved in day-to-day operations.
