Mönnigs Projekt für das Römisch-Germanische Museum sieht das römische Reich als Sinnbild vielfältiger Strukturen, die bis in die heutige Zeit hinein wirken. Kultureller Transfer, Migration, Warenfluss, Globalisierung, Militärmacht oder Event-Kultur - nur einige der Begriffsketten, die sich in Mönnigs Vitrinen-Installationen entschlüsseln lassen. In freier Assoziation fügt er Versatzstücke zusammen, kombiniert Erhabenes und Profanes - kostbare A.S.-Rom-Fanartikel, Militaria, Votivbilder, Opfergeräte und grellgrüne Plastiksandalen -, betreibt lustvoll Systembruch und Irritation.
