The Intangible Heritage Lists
The List of Intangible Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding which came into being in Abu Dhabi, includes 12 elements proposed by States Parties to the Convention and whose viability is endangered, despite the efforts of the community or group concerned. By inscribing an element on this List, the State undertakes to implement specific safeguards and may be eligible to receive financial assistance from a Fund set up for this purpose.
The Representative List already included 90 elements, following the incorporation of the 90 masterpieces proclaimed before the Convention entered into force. It is now augmented by 76 first elements inscribed according to criteria defined in the operational directives of the Convention. These elements must help enhance the visibility of the intangible cultural heritage and raise awareness regarding its importance; they must benefit from measures to promote their continued practice and transmission, and must have been nominated by States with the active and widest possible participation of the communities concerned, and with their free, prior and informed consent.
The Committee also selected 3 safeguarding programmes, projects and activities that it considers best reflect the principles and objectives of the Convention. The Committee hopes to use this register of good practices to raise public awareness of the importance of intangible heritage and the need to safeguard it.

The Seven Ancient Wonders
The commonly known Seven Ancient Wonders of the World were all man-made monuments, selected by Philon of Byzantium in 200 B.C. Today, only the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt remain.
His selection of wonders was essentially a travel guide for fellow Athenians, and the stunning sites were all located around the Mediterranean basin, the then-known world.
Now, just as Pierre de Coubertin revived the Olympic Games in 1896 with his modern version of the competition, New7Wonders founder Bernard Weber has revived the concept of the 7 Wonders of the World with these ambitious global campaigns, the Official New 7 Wonders of the World and the New7Wonders of Nature.
The key difference is that, this time around, they were not chosen by one man, but rather by millions of people all over the world.
The new wonders that have been selected are the people’s choices, and they have been drawn from the earliest time that humankind walked upon the earth up through the year 2000. The natural wonders that will be chosen in the current campaign will then bring our natural heritage onto the same level of appreciation as that which has been made by humans.
The monuments Philon of Byzantium chose, to be remembered in perpetuity, were:
- The Lighthouse of Alexandria
- The Temple of Artemis
- The Statue of Zeus
- The Colossus of Rhodes
- The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
- The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
- The Pyramids of Egypt

UNESCO (W3)
"UNESCO" steht für "United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization" = "Organisation der Vereinten Nationen für Bildung, Wissenschaft, Kultur und Kommunikation".
(E3)(L1) http://www.hanisauland.de/info/allebegriffe.html
...
